The Best Songs of Faris Nourallah.

A Brief History

The idea of Near The Sun. The Best Songs Of Faris Nourallah, the fourth official album by FARIS NOURALLAH, occurred to Green Ufos in 2003, when, after listening to "Problematico" we really begun to appreciate all the different facets of him as an artist. As firm fans of FARIS following the Nourallah Brothers debut album, we felt that he could become much more popular if people were more aware of his great pop songs, so we decided to work in an album that reflected his more accessible and brighter side. It might seem kind of crazy, a Spanish little label releasing worldwide a compilation by an underground American artist, but it was our bet. FARIS and Western Vinyl people were surprised and excited about the record, they loved both the songs selection and their sequence, and Spanish artist José Luis Ágreda (“Cosecha Rosa”, First Prize in Festival Internacional del Cómic de Barcelona 2001) was in charge of the artwork of this refined digipack.

In 2002 FARIS NOURALLAH took the break-up of the Nourallah Brothers as an opportunity to release his first solo record “I love Faris”. Critics from magazines such as Mojo found the record to be “warm touching, and once heard near impossible to live without.”  Less than a year later he had released his sophomore solo record “Probematico”.  Again critics and fans were pleased drawing comparisons to Ray Davies, Eric Matthews, and Plush. With each song pop hooks fall like candy from a heart-shaped piñata - each new melody a sticky sweet guilty pleasure.  You'll find no pretense or sense of self-consciousness, just of some of the most sincere and addictively catchy pop songs you've heard in a long while.  Had NOURALLAH's songs arrived 20 years ago, you'd likely know his name as well as you know Elvis Costello or Ray Davies; he's that good.

So here is the happiest and most pop moments of FARIS NOURALLAH. It has not been easy ... FARIS has a touch of sadness even when he smiles ... We are very proud of Near The Sun. The Best Songs Of Faris Nourallah and we sincerely hope you will enjoy it.

Una Breve Historia

”Near the Sun.

”Near the Sun.

LYRICS

A Famous Life

flippin’ througha magazine
even on the tv screen

I wonder if you knew when you were young that you’d grow up to be so well sung
I wonder if you ever had the feeling that a famous life would be appealing
I wonder if you’d let me take your place for just a while
Maybe let me have a little taste for just a while

A sign said on the boulevard
Put your faith in him and you’ll go far

I wonder if you ever had the feeling that a famous life would be appealing
I wonder if you knew when you were young that you’d grow up to be so well sung
I wonder if you’d let me take your place for just a while
Maybe let me have a little taste for just a while
Everywhere I look I see your face “please be mine”
A hair is never even out of place “please be mine”

Start A Revolution

Oh my dears what have we done?
We’ve taken our good fortune and then we’ve run
Waitin’ for a light to change
I had a fine idea
But now its gone

Oh my dears what have we done?
Only lookin’ out for number one
Waitin’ for our lives to change
We use to have ideas
But now they’re gone

Come on, come on, come on
Lets start a revolution
Lets start a revolution

Come on, come on, come on
Lets start a revolution
Lets start a revolution

Oh I wonder how they sleep at night
When half the world is starvin’ that is just not right
Solutions aren’t that hard to see, we’ll make the world a better place
For you and for me
For you and for me

Come on, come on, come on
Lets start a revolution
Lets start a revolution

Come on, come on, come on
Lets start a revolution
Lets start a revolution

Oh my dears what have we done?

A Day To Remember

If you got a bag just get it packed ‘cause we are goin’ on a holiday
You can take the back and grab a nap, I’ll wake you when we’re well underway

Everybody needs a day they can remember
The sun is in the sky and you are mine
Everybody needs a way they can remember
And ours is in this song so hold on

We will find a place, a place to stay, a place where we can be
All of the things we’d like to be, we’ll be together now

Everybody needs a day they can remember
The sun is in the sky and you are mine
Everybody needs a way they can remember
And ours is in this song so hold on

If we close our eyes and count to ten
We’ll be on. on another holiday
If we just pretend and make a wish
We’ll turn our lives into a holiday

Everybody needs a day they can remember
The sun is in the sky and you are mine
Everybody needs a way they can remember
And ours is in this song so hold on
And ours is in this song so hold on
A day to remember
A day to remember
Remember me

Sick On The Scalator

I got sick on the escalator
I got sick on the escalator

It’s not right, it’s not my fault
I couldn’t see the signs
Now I’m sent to the back of the line
Where the view is never good

I got sick on the escalator
I got sick on the escalator

It wasn’t right, it’s not my fault
The signs were too obscure
I got sent to the back of the line
Where there’s never a good view

You say it doesn’t matter
But that’s just your point of view
I got sick on the escalator
Throwin’ up in plain view

I got sick on the escalator
I got sick on the escalator

It wasn’t right, it’s not my fault
The signs were hid from view
Now I’m pushed to the back of the line
Where the view is never good

You say it doesn’t matter
But that’s just your point of view
I got sick on the escalator
Throwin’ up in plain view

I got sick on the escalator
I got sick on the escalator
I got sick on the escalator, comin’ downs harder than goin’ up
I got sick on the escalator, comin’ downs harder than goin’ up
I got sick on the escalator, comin’ downs harder than goin’ up
I got sick on the escalator, comin’ downs harder than goin’ up

Will We Ever Know Why?

Will we ever know why
Is it there in the eyes
Right from the start
Will we ever know how
It can get in your heart
Right from the start

Will we ever know why
Our hearts feel the way they do
Will we ever know why
Love can change your points of view
Changing all, but how I feel ‘bout you

People often have tried
To analyze why
They fell in love
Was it the heart or the mind
Or was it there in the eyes
Right from the start

Will we ever know why
Our hearts feel the way they do
Will we ever know why
Love can change your points of view
Changing all, but how I feel ‘bout you

Problematico

Everybody seems to have this problem
People always buttin’ in their business
They say it’s ‘cause they love you
And I’m sure that they really do but
I’m allright

Got my momma on the telephone
She’s a wonderin’ when I’m comin’ home
It’s okay I really got no problems
But if I did you’d be the one I’d talk to
I’m allright

You said you wouldn’t worry
If I said that I am happy
I said please don’t worry
I am very happy

Jump up, talk to a psychic
Jump up, talk to a priest
Me, I’m strong and silent
And I really haven’t got a problem
I’m allright

Oh problematico…

Fantastic

Somethin’ went the wrong way again
It seems to happen every other time
I was looking the wrong way again
My friends all tell me that I’m froze in time

Fantastic
God made me with a body like a matchstick
Fantastic
I gotta’ where these big old glasses made of plastic

I’m feelin’ like I’m 13 again
I feel this way whenever you walk by
But you won’t see me, you won’t see me
To you I guess I’m just another four eyes

Fantastic
God made me with a body like a matchstick
Fantastic
I gotta’ where these big old glasses made of plasti
Fantastic
Fantastic

Brogadiccio

Brogadiccio mi compadres
We’ll slap each others backs and look at the girls
Brogadiccio mi compadres
You can take the blonde, mines got the curls

We’ll drink until the sun begins to spoil our fun
It’s a heavenly night for bacchus and mi amore
So gather up the crew and finish up your brews
It’s a chariot ride on empty streets this morning
Brogadiccio mi compadres
Brogadiccio mi compadres

Let's Get Married

Will we marry?
That’s the question
Will we marry?
What’s the hurry?

I don’t wanna’ be a papa someday
I don’t wanna’ be a father no way

Let’s get married

When you’re married
You get the problems…
When you’re married
You get the family…

I don’t wanna’ be a papa someday
I don’t wanna’ be a father no way

Why don’t we try and break the rules?
Live together like we did at school
You know I hate to follow the rules
We can shock our moms and dads
Living together like we always have
Who says we have to play by the rules?
We’re the final authority
On who decides on how we want to be
Do we have to play by the rules?

Once In A Lifetime

I just had the strangest feeling
I can’t describe this real strange feeling
You can call it what you like, but I just had the strangest feeling

Once in a lifetime
We might love like this
Once in a lifetime
We might feel such bliss

Once in a lifetime
We might love like this
Once in a lifetime
We might feel such bliss

I can’t quite explain this feeling
Wish that I could name this feeling
You can call it what you want but I just had the strangest feeling

Once in a lifetime
We might love like this
Once in a lifetime
We might know such bliss

Once in a lifetime
We might love like this
Once in a lifetime
We might know such bliss

I just had the strangest feeling…

Down

Down, down, down, down
Down, down, down, down

Life has a way of gettin’ you down
Life has a way of gettin’ you down, down, down
Life has a way of gettin’ you down

Down, down, down, down
Down, down, down, down

Life has a way of gettin’ you down
Life has a way of gettin’ you down, down, down
Life has a way of gettin’ you down

What you gonna’ do?
When it comes up to you
And there’s nowhere to run or hide
Catchin’ up with you
And down, down, down

Life has a way of gettin’ you down
Life has a way of gettin’ you down
Life has a way of gettin’ you down

She'd Walk A Mile

She’d walk a mile if only to see him for just a while
She’d think of every word that she’d say but then only smile
Which dress, which shoes will she ever choose, the red or blue?
Her nails, her lips, her mothers hips, and a light perfume
Her sister thinks he’s an angelic dream, a movie star,
Her brother thinks he’s too scrubbed and clean, but he likes his car
She’d walk a mile if only to see him it’s a lovely day, that’s enough of a reason, to walk a mile if only to see him for just a while
She wishes that she might get the chance that he’ll ask her out to Saturdays dance, kick off the year with a brand new romance and good bye blues!

She’d walk a mile…

I'm Falling

Floating with weightless grace
A way to describe this place

I’m falling, I’m falling

There was never a sign to say
I think you might be falling again
There was not enough time to spend

I’m falling, I’m falling

Reality’s gone away
Replaced by your smiling face

I’m falling, I’m falling
I’m falling, I’m falling

Far From The Sun

How’d I get so far from the sun?
Out in space, really close to no one
I still dream of those golden days
When we’d be together every Saturday…

How’d I get so far from the sun?
Without you around, it is not too much fun
I still dream of those golden days
When we’d be together on each Saturday… Always…

How’d I get so far from the sun?
How’d I get so far from the sun?

Where I Always Get What I Want?

I dream there is a place
Somewhere deep in outerspace
Where I always get what I want
It’s filled with sand and sea
And pretty girls for me
Where I always get what I want
Where I always get what I want

No problems in the sun
I’m friends with everyone
Where I always get what I want
So come on, come on, come on
It’s free for everyone
Where I always get what I want
Where I always get what I want

I’ll bring you there with me
Lovely palm trees by the sea
Where I always get what I want
There won’t be any rules
Like they use to have in school

Where I always get what I want
Where I always get what I want
Where I always get what I want
Where I always get what I want

Impossible To Know

I’ll chop the wood
and build the fire
and mend the backyards gate
I’ll check accounts
And realestate
With bankers I’ll conspire

On and on and on
On and on and on
On and on and on

You’ll wash the clothes
And cook the food
And wipe the babys nose
You’ll make a house
Into a home
Four walls not just a room

On and on and on
On and on and on
On and on and on

You know that I love you, yes it’s so
You know that I need you for love to grow
Impossible to know why you fight the flow

Christian Flyer

Ooo my love I love you
Ooo my love I need you
Ooo my love I want you
Ooo my love I feel you

Christian flyer
You’ll be goin’ up to heaven slowly
Christian flyer
You’ll be goin’ up to heaven slowly

Your monkey on my ship
I won’t let you slip
On your way to heaven my Christian flyer

Free a little need
Grow it under lights
And dedicate it ‘me’

Christian flyer
You’ll be goin’ up to heaven slowly
Christian flyer
You’ll be goin’ up to heaven slowly

You fly it solo
But tonight you’re off the charts
You want some heaven
So I’ll make it appear
I’ll make it appear, my Christian flyer

Your monkey on my ship
I won’t let you slip
On your way to heaven my Christian flyer

Adieu

Like setting suns,
Or when works done,
Goodbye
Like dreams that pass,
In a way they last,
Adieu my love,
Adieu my love,
Adieu my love,
There’s nothing left unsaid but adieu my love

Time will pass,
Seeds turn to grass,
Carry on
Though times have changed,
Your memory still remains,

Adieu my love,
Adieu my love,
Adieu my love,
There’s nothing left unsaid but adieu my love

Our love has passed.
But in a perfect world we’d last
Long enough to never say goodbye,
My love,
Goodbye.

Adieu my love
Adieu my love
Adieu my love
There’s nothing left unsaid but adieu my love

Someone Who Doesn´t Love You

It’s hard to love someone who doesn’t love you
It’s hard to love someone who doesn’t care
And if you’re out there waitin’ for your sun to shine
It’s hard to love someone who doesn’t love you

It’s hard to love someone who doesn’t love you
It’s hard to love someone who doesn’t care
So if you’re waiting for the bells to start to chime
It’s hard to love someone who doesn’t love you

No boy, no boy, I’m really quite the find
No boy, no boy, I’m sure you shouldn’t mind
Although I might be by myself
I’m not in my mind
No boy, no boy, you better wait in line

And if you take another look
Our love could be an open book

It’s hard to love someone who doesn’t love you
It’s hard to love someone who doesn’t care
And if you’re out there waitin’ for the sun to shine
It’s hard to love someone who doesn’t love you
It’s hard to love someone who doesn’t love you

The Road

Behind you the road
The road that takes you back to might’ve beens that yet may come true
Pushin’ forward, pushin’ past the past that blocks the way,
It’s all in the way
It’s all in the way that you choose to remember me

Remember the nights we had
Remember the days we had
Still the road just takes you back
And in your mind its out of whack
Why we said “let’s just pack it in and head down the road”
“let’s just pack it in and head down the road”

looking forward
no sense looking back at damage costs and bills of despair
we were younger
crazy in our way, but not too bad, was it really so bad?
Crazy in the way that people when they’re younger are

Remember the nights we had
Remember the days we had
Still the road just takes you back
And in your mind its out of whack
Why we said “let’s just pack it in and head down the road”
“let’s just pack it in and head down the road”
leaving on the road
leaving on the road
