Speed The Road, Rush The Lights

Green Ufos is proud to announce the worldwide release of a new and exclusive cdep from PIANO MAGIC. "Speed The Road, Rush The Lights" was recorded during Winter 2002/2003 in London by full-time band members Glen Johnson, Jerome Tcherneyan, Franck Alba, Alasdair Steer, James Topham with vocal contributions from honorary band member, Angèle David-Guillou. Piano Magic parted ways with 4AD Records in December last year after releasing the soundtrack album to Spanish director Bigas Luna's "Son De Mar" film and the album "Writers Without Homes" which featured collaborations with the likes of Tarwater, Vashti Bunyan, Life Without Buildings, The Czars, and Simon Raymonde (Cocteau Twins).

"Speed The Road, Rush The Lights" is the band's first release for Green Ufos and consists of 3 exclusive new tracks. Angèle David Guillou sings with Ginger Ale, a French band signed to Virgin-France and also has her own solo project, Klima. Ginger Ale's debut album, "Laid Back Galerie" is out now.

A new Piano Magic album is planned for release in September.

Romantic, innovative, dynamic in turns, PIANO MAGIC are one of the most inspired British bands of modern times. They've worked with several of the most reputable alternative labels of the past few years - 4AD, MORR MUSIC, ROCKET GIRL, CHÉ , DARLA and ACUARELA, among others.

Though virtually underground in their home country, PIANO MAGIC have amassed a devout following in Mainland Europe through regular touring, particularly in cities and towns other bands would usually ignore. In Spain especially, they have become a cult band, recognised by press and public thanks to their beautiful, though dynamic, concerts and the sheer quality of their songs.

There's no denying that these are troubled times for bands like Piano Magic.

Out of season, out of sight, out of mind.

With skinny tied, plimsolled New York New Wave youth ruling the airwaves, how are PM to get a look in with their glacial pop music? Well, they aren't.

And they're all the better for it. Piano Magic have been refining their unique brand of tender, heartbroken, two-bar-fire pop music since 1996.

Sonically, they're the spiritual heirs to the likes of Disco Inferno or "Faith"-era The Cure.

Lyrically, not a million miles away from the blue moods of The Smiths - think "Asleep," "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore" or "Well I Wonder."

The combination has always only ever touched those who want to be touched.

"The Troubled Sleep Of Piano Magic" was recorded between Winter 2002 and Summer 2003 at The Fortress Studios in London and at the band's home studio, Murder Mile.

As with last year's "Writers Without Homes," the record was produced by the band and engineered by Robinson Hughes and Gareth Parton.

Everything was written and recorded by full-time band members Glen Johnson, Jerome Tcherneyan, Franck Alba, Alasdair Steer, James Topham with vocal contributions from honorary band member, Angele David-Guillou.

(David-Guillou sings with Ginger Ale, a French band signed to Virgin-France and also has her own solo project, Klima).

Piano Magic is now truely a trans-channel unit - Tcherneyan, Alba and David-Guillou are all French citizens.

"The Troubled Sleep Of Piano Magic" is the band's first album release for the Spanish independent label, Green Ufos, who celebrate their 10th Anniversary this year.

The Spanish connection shouldn't come as much of a surprise - the band tour Spain extensively every year, have played some of the country's biggest festivals, they've recorded the soundtrack to Bigas Luna's "Son De Mar" movie and previously released EPs on the Spanish independent label, Acuarela, as well as on Green Ufos.

"The Troubled Sleep Of Piano Magic" is the perfect Winter soundtrack - all fairgrounds in snow, dark shadows on the land, icy seas. It could be their last and we'll only miss them when they've gone.
